With Sri Swamiji’s grace, Brisbane chapter of G.O.D. Australia held its first major public event to celebrate Sri Krishna Janmashthami on September 1, 2018 at Taigum State School Hall. It was attended by approximately 180 people.
The day started with an introduction to the organisation’s activities for people unfamiliar with G.O.D. The Krishna Jananam chapter from Srimad Bhagavatham was chanted to begin the celebrations. This was followed by an enactment of baby Krishna being carried to Gokul by Vasudev. In ‘Gokul’, baby Krishna was placed in his cradle. Several bhajans were sung while the ladies from the audience danced around the cradle.
The Gopa Kuteeram children’s program then began with a short play depicting the Govardhan leela. The children then sang a few bhajans and performed some dances.
Next, we had a flute performance by an eminent local flautist, Sri Murali Ramakrishnan. Bhajans were then sung by Carnatic music teachers Smt. Sharada Murali and Smt. Sridevi Karthik.
We then had a procession of Sri Premika Varadhan and Madhuri Sakhi’s portrait around the hall while the audience chanted the Mahamantra. This was followed by archanai to the Lordships and Chappan Bhog and aarthi.
